Sweet Valley’s music is beats made by melodic noisepop brothers Nathan (Wavves) and Joel (Kynan) Williams in their house in LA. Unsurprisingly, it comes across like the beat-heavy half of Wavves’ King of the Beach multiplied by the sample-heavy TV Girl songs produced by Kynan, stripped down to pure instrumentals. The songs have a hazy, laid-back southern California vibe, and are nicely crowded with driving beats and perfectly-placed samples. It’s 100% summer jam material, and the release of the whole tape (out 8/7) can’t come soon enough.

Sweet Valley - Eternal Champ The Williams Brothers (Wavves and Kynan) have, using sorcery, created one of the most masterful suburban kid beat tapes in the history of the world. The samples contained therein include video game sounds, movie quotes, rap quotes, television quotes (including Seinfeld). The music nimbly dances between hard hip hop, laid back dub/reggae, and expansive chillwave and noise. It hits pretty much every sweet spot for me, and I can’t stop listening. The Williams Brothers (Wavves and Kynan) have, using sorcery, created one of the most masterful suburban kid beat tapes in the history of the world. The samples contained therein include video game sounds, movie quotes, rap quotes, television quotes (including Seinfeld). The music nimbly dances between hard hip hop, laid back dub/reggae, and expansive chillwave and noise. It hits pretty much every sweet spot for me, and I can’t stop listening. Go get this.

Sweet Valley - Jenova When Wavves and Kynan announced they were teaming up to make beat tapes, I’m pretty sure no one expected them to be good. Wavves was known for his surprisingly poppy loser noise-punk (and his onstage meltdowns) and his brother was known in some parts for for his surprisingly poppy electro-noise ballads. So the combination of them producing some hazy, funny, dense beats that I love was unexpected.
